This two-bedroomed furnished house is a semi-rural property just a short walk from the beach at Muri, in the south-east corner of Rarotonga. Although many visitors seek beachside accommodation, they sometimes don't realise that the beach is also very close to the traffic which runs along the main road encircling the island.
If you want the authentic experience of living on Rarotonga with peace and quiet and total relaxation then this is the place for you. Are Meika (Banana House) has been recently extended and renovated and is situated in a quiet, unsealed road ending in a cul-de-sac in the area of Aremango, Ngatangiia. It captures the cool, prevailing south-east trade wind.
The house is five minutes walk from the main road where round-the-island buses stop and a further five minutes to the nearest beach at Muri. Are Meika is set on a half-acre among banana trees. It has polished concrete floors and is of concrete brick construction (cool in the hot weather) and has extensive verandahs facing north and west to protect against the afternoon sun. It also has high ceilings which allow maximum air circulation
