Are Taraare : 2 Bedrooms : 1 Bathroom
For those who seriously want to "get away from it all" Are Taraare situated up the verdant Tupapa Valley on the north-eastern side of Rarotonga is the one. The house is nestled at the base of a mountain against the trees of a beautiful, rural valley and is a 10 minute drive to the main township of Avarua and about 15 minutes from the Muri lagoon. Away from the busy main road which encircles the island it is a mere two minutes to the picturesque and ancient Ara Metua road which runs from Avarua all the way around the eastern side of the island to Ngatangiia. Are Taraare affords peace and tranquillity and wonderful views of surrounding forested hills and mountains.
The house has a spacious verandah with a trellis for shade and privacy. There are two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with gas hob and oven, lounge and dining area. The kitchen features a refrigerator as well as a deep freeze. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. There is also a rear verandah, laundry (with automatic washing machine) and extra bathroom. The house is fully furnished and insect screened. A telephone is available for local calls and there is a radio and stereo/CD player. All linen, towels, cutlery, crockery etc is provided.
Are Taraare is most suitable for visitors seeking an authentic experience in comfortable Cook Islands living instead of the more touristy ideal of thatched huts alongside a beach. Although not very far from the main township it is secluded and peaceful. A road that runs from the back of the home seem to lead no where in particular and goes deep into the valley offering a spectacular nature walk into the islands' lush interior. Writers and artists would most probably find it an appealing environment...a home away from home.
